E-waste geographer Josh Lepawsky visits VIVO!

VIVO is thrilled to have geographer Josh Lepawsky involved in three events:

Oct 19, 2017 evening, he’ll be reading with us at our recurring media theory salon Text-To-Speech

Oct 20, 2017 during the day, he’ll be leading a workshop on researching online images, methods he’s used in his studies of discarded electronics

Oct 20, 2017 he’s giving a free public talk about the geographies of discarded electronics, and ethics of how to handle them. The talk will take place from 4pm-6pm at SFU Harbour Centre, Room  2270. Click here for more details.

Josh Lepawsky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He researches the geographies of modern waste, focusing on the international trade and traffic of discarded electronics (or ‘e-waste’), as well as the discards of human activity in outer space.

More about his work can be found at his blog, Reassembling Rubbish.
