A Fall Greeting and Farewell

A Fall Greeting and Farewell

VIVO bids a fond farewell to Emily Smith and Brit Bachmann, and welcomes Lianne Zannier!

Since 2013, Emily has applied her experience producing community-engaged art and her enthusiasm for maker-culture toward the Education Manager role. Her approach has been responsive and inclusive – her workshop and mentorship programming was developed by listening to our membership to understand what they’re interested in learning and how they best like to learn. From workshops on 3D printing, GIF making, projection mapping and programming, to mentorships with artists such as Brady Marks, The Experimental Theremin Orchestra, Wynne Palmer, Alex Beim, Leó Stefansson and Niel McLaren, Emily has accomplished a lot in three years (and for all their support along the way, she’s especially thankful to Emma Hendrix and Karen Knights). In September, Emily embarked on her own educational adventure, the Masters of Design program at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Her work there will focus on developing curriculum specific to maker culture. Best of luck and thank you for everything, Emily!

During her two years with VIVO as Community Engagement Coordinator, Brit was out in the community and here at the front desk connecting with partners, members, renters, and volunteers, introducing them to VIVO’s activities and programs, and doing the crucial work of fostering our community of artists and makers. Brit managed deftly all the minutia of volunteer, member and renter records, while simultaneously overseeing facilities rentals, managing social media and being the friendly face of the organization to anyone who walked in the door. Brit developed our Instagram feed into a visual diary of activity, from public events to quiet moments in the office. Editor-In-Chief of Discorder Magazine, Vancouver Co-op Radio host, free-lance arts writer, and artist, Brit has no shortage of things to do and you can follow her ongoing projects on her website. We’ll miss you Brit, and we wish you all the best! (Photo by Kima Kimberlin)

But we also have happier news. We are very pleased to welcome Lianne Zannier as the new Operations Coordinator. Lianne is an animator and visual artist whose work integrates an interest in hand-drawn animation and digital technologies. Her projects have ranged from large-scale group drawings to immersive installations and animated short films. In her practice she investigates the many possibilities of chroma key with mark making techniques in order to explore a relationship between the medium of drawing with traditional forms of animating on paper. She has worked in arts organizations and artist run centres across Canada and holds a BA in Art History from Mount Allison University, a BFA in Film Animation from Concordia University and an MAA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Welcome, Lianne!
