The Crista Dahl Media Library & Archive Collection
The Crista Dahl Media Library & Archive (CDMLA) houses Western Canada’s foremost repository of videotapes by artists and independent producers. Spanning over 40 years of production, its 5000 video titles reflect the rich history of video art in Canada and abroad. The collection also includes related books, periodicals, directories, photographs, audio tapes, an extensive equipment archive, producers’ documentation, and the records of the VIVO Media Arts Centre, documenting its activities since its 1973 incorporation as the Satellite Video Exchange Society. While the primary focus is on Canadian artists, artists and video centres from around the world are well represented. The collection reflects the interests and initiatives of VIVO Media Arts Centre. Well-represented subjects include Feminism, LGBTQ, Communication, Identity Politics, First Nations, New Media, and Video Art.
The CDMLA Special Collections include BC media collectives, organizations and cable programs from the 1970s and 1980s; BC media artists’ personal archives; and special projects of SVES.
