Jean Pritchett

Jean Hazel Pritchett nee Blair was born in Ontario. She married her first husband there. When they divorced she moved to British Columbia. She was predeceased by her husband wife of labour activist and founding President of the International Woodworkers of America, Harold James Pritchett (1904-1982).

Description

Pritchett discusses the history of her husband’s labour activism (tape one); her experience organizing office workers on a volunteer basis while working part-time; organizing before there was a union dedicated to office workers; having success organizing drafting employees at Western Bridge; intimidation tactics used by employers against female employees trying to unionize; participating in the workers march to Victoria in 1946; trade unions’ decision to support the war effort; returning WWII soldiers stage a sit-in at Hotel Vancouver to get affordable rentals.
