SVES Events 2000s
In February 2001, SVES launched its first website: videoinstudios.com. That same year the Signal & Noise Festival was conceived and would be a programming staple for 11 years. Another long-running program initiated in that decade was SLAB (Studio Lab) 2007 to 2012. It was described concisely as “making things that do things” and where artists could “develop their art unconstrained by new media conventions and assumed ways of using technology…blurring the lines between experimentation, creation and public presentation.” Most of the decade’s documentation is on Mini-DV, a digital tape format, that gradually replaced Hi-8, and by the mid-2000s,VIVO had purchased an HDV (high-definition video on DV cassette) camera, significantly raising the technical quality of documentation.
