Catching Up with Tomorrow brings together a dynamic group of musicians that embrace the originality and vitality that was so much a part of the music she loved. A jam packed bill hosted by author and historian Aaron Chapman (author of “Liquor, Lust, and the Law”) and showman Dennis Mills (The Judys, A.K.A. and The Jazzmanian Devils) features music from former Subhumans bass player Gerry Hannah and his New Questioning Coyote Brigade, powerpunkpop band the Salvos, savage dad rock band The Judys, former U-J3RK5 member Danice Macleod’sBAMFF project and, after over a three decade hiatus, A.K.A. and I, Braineater.
The Lenore Herb Archive @ VIVO
Much of Vancouver’s early punk music history would have been destined to exist only on vinyl if not for the relentless documentation by Lenore Herb. Armed with an unwieldy ¾ inch video camera. Lenore died in 2010 leaving an extensive archive of music, environmental, poetry and political videos that are at risk of disappearing unless the important task of digitization is completed. In 2014, Herb’s family (Saphira Coutts and Tali Foley-Herb) generously donated her extensive video and print archive to VIVO, which houses the largest repository of Video Art and community-based independent media in Western Canada.
Your ticket purchase will help with the continued digitization of Lenore’s Archive and lay the groundwork for an accessible online archive of her work.
Special thanks to Dennis Mills, Michelle Normyle, Diane Keenlyside, Nicolai Gauer and Elisa Ferrari for going the extra mile.
