As Apple’s Final Cut Pro software has an extensive user base, there are a great number of publicly available learning resources: books, CD-ROM’s and websites with articles and user forums.

Books:

I recommend learning primarily via hands-on time with FCP combined with a clearly written, well-organized book. Books continue to have advantages in terms of clarity and organisation of information and ease and quick access to information (retrieval). Once digested, books continue to be useful as handy reference material.

Of all the relevant books I recommend Final Cut 7 Visual QuickPro Guide by Lisa Brenneis. This lesson-based book looks to be another good choice.

Another good choice is Tom Wolsky’s Final Cut Pro 5 Editing Essentials.Though this is covering an older version of Final Cut Pro the vast majority of the material will still be directly relevant.

These books are available through major resellers like Chapters and Amazon. Note that Final Cut Pro 7 is the most recent version of Final Cut Pro prior to the release in June of 2011 of the completely reworked Final Cut X. For more information on the differences between Final Cut Pro 7 and Final Cut X refer to Wikipedia.

Web Resources:

After that, I recommend additional learning via web resources. What they lack in clear organization, they make up for in terms of providing vast, up-to-date, interactive information.

The best in my opinion is Ken Stone’s discussions and articles site.

Apple’s main Final Cut Pro support page is a useful hub of web resources.

Final Cut Pro Discussions within the Apple Support site.
Emphasis on troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

Another useful resource is the LA FCP User Group.

Also, there are podcasts within the Creative Cow aggregate of software tutorials and discussions.

This resource appears to have various QuickTIme tutorials though I haven’t explored it much.

2-pop was once the king of online FCP resources, but I now only occasionally go there:

That should get you started. Happy editing.
