Synopsis:
Journeys, Dear Dad is the exploration of the artist’s relationship with his late father. In Syafiq Jaafar’s installation, two visual sets of memories (one captured by Syafiq and one by his late father) are connected as a single recollection, going in and out of sync to represent the rhythms and flows of a father-son relationship.  Journeys, Dear Dad is the winner of the 2017 VIVO Distribution Award.

Bio:

Syafiq Jaafar, holds a BFA in Film, Video and Integrated Media from Emily Carr University (2017). Through experimentation with analog film, traditional animation, projections, and virtual reality, Syafiq utilizes the diverse qualities of these mediums to reflect on personal experiences, memories, and relationships.

A native of Singapore, Syafiq graduated with a Diploma in Multimedia Design (majoring in Audio Video Production) from Nanyang Academy Of Fine Arts in 2007. He has since worked for the Police Force Public Affairs Department, moving on to corporate videos, TVCs, feature films and TV series with different companies through Singapore’s Mediacorp Suria.
