“In Cine-geographies: the Pacific video project, The Capilano Review commissioned three 3-minute collaborative digital works for single or multiple screens. The three experimental video projects – collaborations between BC poets and a BC filmmaker – have explored Pacific regional geo-politics: environments, urban sites, historical interfaces, waterways, radical cartographies. Rather than begin each production process with a pre-written text that is “filmed,” the project innovated an improvisational approach based on a series of meetings between each acclaimed writer (Jordan Abel, Roy Miki, and Jacqueline Turner) and director/cinematographer Brian Johnson and collaboration through the entire production process. The video’s experiment with translating each writers’ concepts, questions, and textual researched on Pacific-oriented material into digital video formats, including finding visual/aural analogies for linguistic expressions. Filming and editing of the digital works will take place in February/March 2015, and we will screen the works in May 2015.”
