Text To Speech Reading 14: Reassembling Rubbish: Worlding Electronic Waste by Josh Lepawsky (forthcoming, MIT Press; author in attendance)
Organized by Western Front, Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society and VIVO Media Arts Centre
Join us at VIVO as we read from geographer Josh Lepawsky's forthcoming book, Reassembling Rubbish: Worlding Electronic Waste. We'll be reading chapter 5 which unpacks the interchange that takes place between the object--the geographies discarded electronics--and how such a complex subject can possibly be known. Lepawsky will be in attendance!
For more details, or to request a PDF of the reading, contact email@example.com
Lepawsky will also be leading a workshop the next morning which will introduce participants to some of the methods he used in the chapter for researching the online career of particular photographs. Workshop details and sign up here: https://researching-online-photos.eventbrite.ca

Focused on writing about media, media art and the surrounding concepts and frameworks of the mediated world, Text to Speech gatherings aim to build stronger community ties and knowledge in our field. In this reading group, participants will be provided with copies of the reading, and we will facilitate a group reading, discussion, and analysis of this text. Prior knowledge of the work is encouraged but not required, as the session will involve some form of introduction, and some portion of close reading (out loud).
