Tiny House Info Session on Wednesday, July 21st, at VIVO

Next Wednesday, July 21st, Zee Kesler of the Tiny Community Centre, will be offering an info session on what she learned while building her tiny house. If you’ve been by VIVO in the past couple of months, you may have seen the mobile classroom parked outside our space. The session will also include John McFarlane of Camera Buildings and expert carpenter Josh Armstrong to speak about the importance of design and planning. The workshop includes a tour of the Tiny Community Centre. If you’re interested in learning more, register for the workshop via Eventbrite.

What will be covered:

Intro to tiny homes and building small

  • How much is it expected to cost to build a little space

  • Where can you place your space?

  • What are the zoning restrictions/requirements?

  • How to plan for your build

Energy and waste

  • Electricity by means of service hook up, solar, or shore power.

  • Methods of disposing grey water and waste.

Design

  • Codes, Safety, Loads, Building Envelope

  • What will the space be used for in it’s lifetime

  • Layout

Trailer selection criteria

  • How do I select a trailer and where can I get it?
  • What work may have to be done to a trailer?
  • Insurance procedures
