VIVO Media Arts Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of Pietro Sammarco as VIVO’s Education Coordinator!

Pietro Sammarco recently graduated from the School of Communication MA program at Simon Fraser University, combining the fields of soundscape composition and media education. His SSHRC funded research explored the recording studio’s public role, and how pedagogy might encourage it by focusing on the social meanings and material possibilities of “waste.” Pietro comes to VIVO with diverse experiences in contemporary and media arts practices, and with arts and technical organizations: he served as a director with The Safe Amplification Site Society, a non-profit venue dedicated to music for people of all ages; was a member of local performance art group Norma; toured extensively as trombonist with They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?; was the first Resident Audio Expert with the VPL Inspiration Lab; and completed the Audio Engineer Work-Study program at the Banff Centre. In his active arts practice he records bands, produces music and sound for film, and DJ’s karaoke; is co-editor of Spoox Audiozine; and continues to perform music with several groups, including Gamelan Bike Bike. Pietro holds a Bachelor’s in Media Arts from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

The staff and board of VIVO are thrilled to welcome Pietro and look forward to all his education programs to come.
