Join VIVO’s Board of Directors

The Satellite Video Exchange Society (VIVO Media Arts Centre) is seeking candidates to fill various positions on its Board of Directors.

The Satellite Exchange Society (VIVO Media Arts Centre) is a Vancouver-based, charitable, non-profit, artist-run centre that encourages and directly supports the creation, production, education, exhibition, distribution, and appreciation of media works by independent artists and alternative, community-based producers and activists. We provide a dynamic artistic program that includes exhibitions, performances, lectures, workshops, residencies, historical archives and access to contemporary research materials. We are dedicated to exploring the potential of new technologies in art and examining current technological evolutions in a critical context.

The Executive Committee is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join its board of directors. Two major areas that need to be filled are in the areas of finance and fundraising, but we also welcome individuals with other valuable skills. Being a member of the board requires commitment, leadership, decision-making abilities, community-mindedness, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and dedication to spurring VIVO on to new levels of artistic and financial success. It is a rewarding experience that allows one to gain new insights and develop new skills that will aid in future endeavours.

The average anticipated time commitment is 9 or fewer hours per month. However, there is no limit on participation. Board meetings are held on a regular basis, and members may be asked to volunteer additional time to support events or to sit on sub-committees. Directors are expected to hold their positions for two years.

Ideal candidates will be trained professionals with fundraising and/or previous board experience, who possess a strong interest in contemporary media arts practices. Professional training in the arts is not required. Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector or with other artist-run centres is an asset.

This is an exciting time to be a part of VIVO Media Arts Centre as we are settling into our new home and are planning for our future permanent location. We are hoping to find Board members interested in contributing to the local arts community by sharing their skills and experience.

Interested individuals are asked to submit their resume and a letter of intent in person or by mail to the address below by Nov. 30, 2015:
