Prerequisites & minimum requirements: 

  • No experience necessary other than basic computer use.
  • Before the first session of this workshop, participants must download and install the free trial of Ableton Live 11, here: https://www.ableton.com/en/trial. Please check that your computer meets the minimum requirements to run the software.
  • To join the workshop, participants must download and install Zoom Client for Meetings, available free here: https://zoom.us/download
  • Participants must use headphones during the workshop.
  • Participants will be supplied some files with which to do exercises, and are also encouraged to bring audio files that they want to discuss and experiment with during the workshop.

 

Ableton Live is one of the top music creation and performance platforms available. In this workshop you will be introduced to the fundamentals of audio recording, MIDI sequencing, mixing, and live performance. Learn how to use the tools in Ableton Live to compose and produce music and experimental sound pieces.The instructor will be reviewing the new features of Ableton Live 11, the latest version.

Participants may use their own MIDI controllers, but are not required to do so.

By the end of the workshop each student will have created a collection of audio components to incorporate in their own projects and will have techniques for generating more in future.

Alexandre Klinke

Alexandre Klinke is a Brazilian music composer, performer, and sound designer for film & TV, based in Vancouver, Canada. With background as a jazz and classical guitarist, his work as a composer reflects an eclectic style that ranges from orchestral to electronic, jazz and rock. As a solo artist, he is heavily inspired by the harmonies and intricate rhythms from Brazilian music. He is also an Instructor at the Digital Music Production Program at Langara College, in Vancouver.
