VIVO Welcomes Brit Bachmann to our staff!

VIVO Media Arts Centre is thrilled to welcome Brit Bachmann to our staff. Brit will be taking on the new position of Community Engagement Coordinator. It’s a job that encompasses regular venue management, ongoing organization and liaising with volunteers, and the facilitation of new public outreach activities. If you want to get involved with VIVO be sure to say hello to Brit:  vivolunteer@vivomediaarts.com

Originally from Kelowna, BC, Brit is a founding member of Studio One11 zine artist collective based out of Kelowna (currently on hiatus). She has a BFA from UBC-Okanagan, focusing on illustration and installation, and attended a full year exchange at the l’École des Beaux Arts in Paris for drawing. She writes freelance art reviews and previews of exhibitions and performances in Vancouver through Vandocument and Creep Magazine. Don’t miss Brit’s upcoming drawing exhibition at The Langham in Kaslo, BC, from Oct 17-Nov 30, 2014. You can also learn more about her art practice and history HERE. .

Brit began volunteering for the print archive at VIVO in 2010. After a few years away to finish her degree, Brit returned to Vancouver and started volunteering again for the centre (primarily during events).  She is passionate about social issues around development, gentrification and displacement, and doesn’t fail to find the timing of her new position at VIVO ironic (and exciting). Brit has wanted to work for VIVO since first volunteering and has always felt at home here. She wants others to feel the same:

“My philosophy toward volunteerism at VIVO is that we are creating an extended family, as opposed to a ‘volunteer base’. Everyone here is an artist or producer of some sort. I see VIVO as being built on the chaos of creatives. I will be adding a loose structure to the chaos, while encouraging networking and experimentation. I welcome people to approach me with crazy, beautiful ideas. I will do the best I can to make them a reality.”

Please be sure to say hello to Brit the next time you’re by the centre. If you’re thinking of getting involved with VIVO for the first time PLEASE don’t be shy! Contact Brit @ vivolunteers@vivomediaarts.com
