Alper Turan

Alper Turan is an independent curator based in Toronto. His practice and research draw on transnational queer strategies, global HIV/AIDS cultural production, censorship and the aesthetics of undetectability, working across the convergences of text, body, and image. He was the 2023–24 Curatorial Fellow in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program (New York) and the 2023–24 General Idea Fellow at the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa). His curatorial work has been presented at Whitney ISP; the Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University (New York); Wiener Festwochen (Vienna); A Tale of a Tub (Rotterdam); the Queer Museum and Volkskundemuseum (Vienna); Protocinema (New York/İstanbul); and the 13th Sharjah Biennial. His writing has appeared in Texte zur Kunst, November, Metropolis M, C Magazine, Artnet, and OnCurating. He is pursuing a PhD in Art History at the University of Toronto.
